According to reports, Samsung is developing a hybrid smartphone design that can be rolled up and folded. An application for a patent has been submitted with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) by the South Korean technology behemoth, with a deadline of June 2021. The revolutionary smartphone design has capabilities for both folding and rolling the device. Samsung is already producing the widely accessible Galaxy Z Fold3 and Flip3, now on the market. But on the other hand, the business has not yet created a rollable smartphone. 91Mobiles was the first to notice the World Intellectual Property Organization patent. Samsung is the first business to patent a foldable and rollable smartphone, even though several firms have submitted patents for foldable and rollable smartphones in the past. The patent, which can be seen in the photographs obtained by the journal, illustrates a smartphone with a rollable screen. The screen first rolls out and then folds in half according to the way it seems.

Samsung has filed a Patent Application for a Hybrid Smartphone Design

According to the patent, ‘Electronic device capable of folding and sliding actions is what the design is described as in the document. For example, the display may be folded at an angle and slid into increasing its size. For such a design to be practical, the smartphone must have a hinge (which is utilized for folding) and a motor (used for sliding). Both of these methods are already available on other devices on their own. In conjunction with the new patent, Samsung is expected to introduce its Fold4 and Flip4 smartphones around the third quarter of 2022. Keep checking back for more information on Samsung’s foldable phones.

Samsung is one of the few firms in the world capable of manufacturing real-world, fully-functional foldable phones. According to industry estimates, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 are the best-selling foldable smartphones in the world. The company had to experiment with various display kinds and materials to build a smartphone with a foldable display. However, Samsung was successful in the end. While the firm first struggled since the original Samsung Galaxy Fold did not have a sturdy design, it later rectified their situation. Now, the business may include curved screen technology into its smartwatches in the future. Samsung has filed a new patent for the design of a smartwatch with a rollable display and a camera. The patent was found by LetsGoDigital, which is now closed. The patent, submitted to the World Intellectual Property Organization on June 2, 2021, has 96 pages of information and design ideas for a rollable wristwatch. The patent was granted on June 2, 2021.

Samsung’s ad hoc subsidiary earlier this month, Samsung Electronics submitted a patent application discovered by LetsGoDigital for an all-display tablet that does not have any connectors, cameras, or tactile buttons. On October 29, 2020, it was published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) after submitting it with the USPTO in July 2020. The document describes a gadget surrounded by several screens on all sides. Front and rear displays are curved, with a flat display panel on the back and semi-rounded displays on the sides, while the sides have semi-rounded shows on them. According to the article, both screens are protected by a translucent housing constructed of clear acrylic material and transparent. The gadget has a sliding mechanism for the cameras, convenient for taking pictures in low light. It is located on the rear of the front display, behind the camera system. The users may use the photo finder and back collection to take selfies. The smartphone will also be fitted with a secondary concealed camera, which will be used to identify the presence of the user and the orientation of the device. The power button has been replaced with a piezoelectric sensor, which is more environmentally friendly. The patent also mentions the potential of an eSIM and wired/wireless charging, even though there are no connectors.

When discussing such future gadgets, the first thing that springs to mind is the application for which they are intended. Several applications are described in the patent, including displaying weather information and health/training information using images over the whole screen. In addition, the gadget will be able to adapt to its surroundings by recognizing colors and presenting visuals following them. However, although this seems to be rather enticing on paper, it may not appear to be quite appealing in practice.
